Upscale Javelin
Just finished a 2X Javelin. I had a couple pro series tubes and a nosecone lying around for ages and didn't know what to do with them. Put in a 24mm mount and considered making a Challenger-1 (my first rocket), but finally settled on the Javelin because I liked the fin design.
Made the decals in photoshop using the Centuri catalog type font and the paint scheme is from an early 80's BMX bike. Should fly nicely on an E-12. |

Slick. Love the paint treatment. I'm going the same route on decals for some of my MRI clones, just using the catalog logo.

That is a really nice paint scheme.
What model 80's BMX bike featured that ?

It was a Rampar R10 from around 1982. I used to have one.
Replaced by an '84 GT pro with graphite tuff wheels (which got stolen) and finally an '85 Kuwahara KZ2. I really miss racing those bikes at the local track. Seems like a lifetime ago! |

Very nice looking Javelin! The Javelin was my first rocket.

Thanks for the Centuri Javelin upscale post. Can you tell me what the name of the "Centuri catalog type font" is? Thanks in advance! Would it be something like Handel Gothic Bold? Cheers and blessings, .

My brother used to ride GT BMX bicycles.
The other popular brands im my area during the 80's were Hutch, Red Line, Kuwahara, Powerlite, Robinson, Mongoose, and Diamondback. Never heard of Rampar.

Rampar was the BMX division of Raleigh bicycles. I used to work at the neighborhood bike shop in the summers and it was primarily a Raleigh dealer. The local guys I raced with all rode the brands you mentioned, plus others like Torker, Skyway, Thruster, SE Racing, Patterson, and Dyno. I still have my Kuwahara hanging in the rafters of the garage. It's exactly as it was in 1985. Wish I could say the same for me! |

I remember both Raleigh and Skyway. Dunno how I missed Rampar.
What I do remember was how insanely priced Red Line bikes were compared to the others. It was easy to tell a kid's parents had $$$ if they rode a Red Line.
