Default Avenger Guinevere, and what she started...

Allen/Jetlag originally posted:

“Avenger Guinevere, and she's pi**ed!”

Or so that is what the intro says on the first page of the Excelsior Avenger Guinevere kit.

She of the Intergalactic Patrol, based at Luke Field, Arizona, is looking for revenge.

"The Galactic Pirates are on the run after injuring Lance Ableman in their last space duel upsetting Lance's girlfriend and fellow pilot Lila Goodbody.

"Lila takes off from Inter-Galactic Patrol's headquarters at Luke Field, Arizona in the new and improved three gunned Avenver Guinevere!

"They can run but they can't hide!"

I remember reading the Guinevere thread as the first post date indicates, January 20, 2013. After following the first few posts, the photos Leo posted and the accompanying information for his build were posted to one of our monthly features, Fire & Smoke, on our website Vernarockets.com.

If you read through the thread you’ll find we loved the very retro look of the rocket and the brief but interesting storyline provided by Gordy that went with it. I wanted more of the story but alas, the teaser was all there was.

For several years after we had clustered and staged the Saturn V’s I had considered writing a book with a space heroine. Of course, I didn’t have to look far for my muse but around the time of the original thread by Allen, “Avenger Guinevere, and she's pi**ed!” popped up, and soon thereafter several key elements fell into place. Before I knew it I found myself sitting at my keyboard drafting the first episode.

(But this isn’t really about the Rocket Babe storyline)

One element of many, was a certain look I had in mind for the piece meal battleship ship I envisioned. A couple of months before Allan’s post that January, I had discussed part of the original storyline with Verna. After a little thought and knowing the Estes Saturn V like she does she realized there was already a cone to fit my needs available from Sirius Rocketry, so for Christmas that year she surprised me with a Sirius, Cestris nosecone.

Just a few days prior to Allen’s, Guinevere thread, I had assembled the Cestris cone and found that not only did it fit the Estes Saturn V like a glove, it had the exact “Apollo era” look I wanted. A few days later I read Gordy’s teaser and before long I decided I should do my own story.

On December 24, 2013, 11 months later, Rocket Babe–Dust Storm was officially released.

But as I said, this isn’t about the RB series so much, as the men who unknowingly helped me get things going. So many times I have meant to make this post HERE, on YORF, to let a group of guys know how they each played a part in something I have meant to do for sometime, which was write a sci-fi book complete with flyable rockets; clustered of course.

So to Allen, Gordy, Leo, Dave at Sirius, and even to the man who provided the forum, Scott, Verna & I owe each of you a sincere, THANK YOU, for the parts you all played in getting Rocket Babe out of my head and onto paper, or Kindle!

Seeing the Guinevere thread again today, I knew I HAD to finally stop and get the, thank you, out there. I hope each of them gets a kick from knowing they each played a part.

From THE Rocket Babe and myself, to all of these men and to all of you on YORF,

Merry Christmas!

Randy & Verna
