Default 3-22-09 Launch

My son launched a few of his rockets today.

The scratch Aerobee went up as a single stage this time.

The Semroc V-2 went up next. It was quicker than I expected.

The Nike-X was last, flown on A8-0 to A8-5. Unlike the fireballs I got on the Aerobee staging a while back, this one is all but undetectable. I can barely see some smoke coming out of the vents when I tweak the image just right, but that messes up the rest of the image (last shot).

Looks like a great day of flying.

I watched the rain today while applying glue fillets to the fins of a few of my birds.

Glad to see someone had a chance to light up a few.

Yeah, good flights. I was supposed to have a 4-H rocketry group meeting here, but it got postponed due to the illness of one of the kids; so I spent my day working on rockets, including my Ultimatum (3x18mm, BT-70, bypass-tube baffle, midline break). I got primer on several of them, and even got some sanding in.

Too windy to fly though...

Yeah, those pictures are sharper than mine. But I captured them off the launch video. Did you use a still camera?

Well, I used to have a nice Canon setup. But after my 1st 'ex' took it (20 years ago) I never got into it again. So now I have a $100 video camera that I bought to strap to my paintball mask. And that is all I've used for the last few years.

It has both the oversized fins and the washer. He didn't want to try to drill the nosecone to add weight for the scale fins.
