Estes Space Shuttle #1284 Made from 1976 - 1998 So yes, 'circa' 1970 ... more precise would have been circa 1970s. Maybe the 's' was left off due to the limitations of the auction title length? Have to ask the seller on that one. Robert |

The seller could have put down the correct age range, not just saying 1970's !!!
The Space Suttle was in the design stage back in the very late 60's and into the 70's. NASA experimented with lifting bodies and gliders back then. The first shuttle was launched (STS-1) on April 12, 1981 with Robert Crippen and John Young on the flight deck. The age range of the Estes #1284 was from 1976 until 1998, that's 22 years, can't really tell inwhich year each were produced. Rifgt now on ebay there are about six shuttles up for sale, the highest is $299.97 and the other is $289.00. Estes was talking about bringing back the shuttle, but, wiyh NASA phasing it out, the focus is on the future. In my opinion, the vacu-formed parts were a challenge and one slip of the knife, oh well ..... |

That price is high but in the past Shuttles sold for more even.
As we agree the price is crazy it doesn't come close to one kit I sold to a US buyer. It was and will be the only kit I will sell but only because I got over $1000 dollars for the rocket kit! Something I couldn't say no to anymore. But if you find that outrageous then take a look at this auction. A similar kit went for circa $500 less 2 weeks before this auction. I'm speechless!! Link that is not for the faint of heart!!

I think the person that paid that much for a plastic model kit has to be "Ed Grubermann" of "Boot To The Head" (Dr.Demento) fame.
