Default What's the remedy for enamel clear-coat blushing?

Took my almost compleated Vega out the other day and clear-coated it. Saw it start to blush, ran in the house and put it in the lowest humidity room and it still blushed. One fin even got a little milky. Nifty rocket with a Semroc-stock paint job and it's flat as a fritter. First time this has happened to me.

It has one coat of clear on it. Anyone have a remedy?

I have never had any form of ENAMEL blush, but lacquer/dope will during high humidity.
Are you SURE it is enamel ? Enamel dries so slow it is almost impossible to blush.
For Lacquer/Dope, you add 'retarder' to the mix in an airbrush/spray gun to slow the drying time, which eliminates blushing during high-humidity.

If you tell me the solvent package in the paint I will be able to tell you if you are truly using enamel. If the ingredients are MEK, MIBK, acetone, ethyl acetate, or Toluene, the product may SAY enamel, but it is really a Lacquer base. Rattle can enamels use slow-drying solvents such as Turpentine, Mineral Spirits, and mild aliphatic hydrocarbons. Some enamels and Lacquers use Xylene in the mix, but always with the faster or slower solvents.

I honestly am not aware of any common Enamel clear-coats. Most all are either Dope/Lacquer or Polyurethane.

I'm not home at the moment, but I'm pretty certain this is it. Don't know what's in it right out of hand.

I've used it exclusively when clear-coating on twenty-odd rockets and never had a problem.

Can I just spray over it or do I have to polish it out or what? It's like I sprayed it with Dull-Coat.

In the past I have occasionally gotten a 'milky' appearance with Krylon Clear. Without ever understanding the variables that made this effect pop up from time to time, I just accepted it. In each case the milkiness gradually disappeared and left the finish on the rocket perfect. Don't understand that, either.

It could be that there is moisture trapped in the clearcoat, but that it eventually finds its way out.

Storing the model in a warm, dry place likely couldn't hurt.

That has happened to me, seems like it is a humidity thing. I have sanded with 600 and repainted with good results.

I've kept it warm and waited, etc. So, I guess this is where I'm going (reply above). The sanding is going to have to be very light as the clear-coat is very thin..

Live and learn. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestions.

Try wet sanding with 1200 or 2000 grit, and of course, let it dry out. Then try re-clearcoating the affected area.
I do like the solution Joe presented; that has worked for me, as well. Easy to do, too! Just set it aside and build something else; you'll forget about it for a while. When you look at it again, it will be better, perhaps gone, even! I would try this first.

I've got four other rockets in primer and one to get a first coat on, tonight. I'll wait until I'm ready to clear-coat the next one and see if it's gotten any better.

Thanks, again.
