You bought the right kind of sled. We have a 2007 Yamaha RS Venture. Those Yamaha 4-strokes are sweet!

That's a sweet touring sled Scott! From what I hear if you leave off the passenger it's a rocket. I've got a couple of cousins who I'll be riding with and they steered me towards Yamaha because of the reliability of the engines. I'm also looking for a touring machine so I may just end up with the same sled you have.

I split this off so we didn't hijack the other thread. Maybe we'll get some other snowmobile enthusiasts to chime in. I know Eagle3 is into it.
Ya, the reliability of the Yami 4-stroke, plus all that torque is what sold me. Not to mention not having to smell like a 2-smoke whenever you were done riding. Here's a great forum for you to join to get any and all info/help you may need with your RX-1. It's based here in WI, which is also where Yamaha USA is based. http://www.ty4stroke.com/ Here's the guys other website dedicated to all Yamaha vehicles. http://www.totallyamaha.com/

I got a chance to really try out my new Yamaha RX1, and after putting almost 200 miles on it I have to say that I love it.
There are pro's and con's with the RX1 but I feel the pro's far outweigh the cons. The pros include; speed (and I mean speed), unbelievable excelleration, almost limitless power, sounds as cool as riding a superbike, and it has dual exaust on the rear of the machine, it's 4 stroke, the engine is bullet proof. The cons include; tendancy to overheat in low snow conditions or if you are dogging through a bunch of water bars, it's pretty high tech so the things I feel comfortable doing are limited. However I did do an oil change though thanks to the Yamaha website Scott pointed me to. What a great resource! The snowmobile club I belong to has an abandoned airfield as part of it's trail system and they groom it for races. I had the RX1 up to 110 on that airstrip and I didn't even have it all the way opened up, I kid you not. The machine is insanely fast. After talking to a number of people, some of them mechanics, I chuckle every time I think of two of the comments I received on the machine. 1. (From an old timer mechanic, a guy who in 20 degree weather is out working on sleds with only a flannel shirt on) "Son what you got there is a rocket". 2. (from a club member who races) "The RX1 isn't the most nimble sled in the corners, but it's the corvette of snowmobiles". I'm really pleased with this sled and plan to do a lot of riding this winter. I also plan to continue to learn how to do my own upkeep on the sled where practicle.

Yamaha sleds are great until one has to buy any replacement parts for them.
Most Yamaha sled owners then wish they had an Arctic Cat or Ski Doo. Parts avaialbility is great at about 3x the $$$ for the same part for a Cat.

Well I guess I fall outside of the "most Yamaha sled owners" category. I've already purchased a few new parts including a new snow flap, carbides, slides, V-belt and a front bumper; all for excellent prices. http://Boats.net sells brand new Yamaha OEM parts real cheap. On top of that my local dealer is a straight up guy so if I do need to go in for service I'll get a fair shake. The engines on Yamahas are pretty much bullet proof and I've got a couple of cousins who I ride with who do all of their own work (including engine rebuilds on their Polaris and Arctic Cat backkup sleds I might add). The bottom line is that any motor sport is expensive. Just like boating, if you need to worry about the cost of parts and service you should probably stick to another hobby. I wouldn't trade my RX1 for ANY Artic Cat, Ski Doo or Polaris.

Pshaw. If I wanted to go out in the cold right now, I'd be on my dual sport bike. That way, I'm legal on the roads.
But it's COLD. I don't like cold, not even a little.

You don't feel the cold at all while you are on the sled. You have your helmet, snow pants, jacket, gloves, snowmobile boots, hand and thumb warmers, and even a windsheild to hide behind. My first dual sport was a Hodaka 125 Wombat. I had a lot of fun with that bike back in the day. They used to call it a combat Wombat. I'm not sure why...
