Note that the MPC and MRC pads were very different.

There is a picture of the "Lunar Lectric" MPC pad, as offered by AVI, here:

http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/nostalgia/73avi08.html

There's a picture of the MPC launch controller there as well.

MPC included a ceramic parabolic blast deflector / standoff.

When I got into the hobby for real in March 1970, my first real pad and controller were from MPC.
More pics and info about the MPC Pad and controller:

They are the pad only and do not include a launch controller.

Back when I was growing up in western PA, the hobby shops there carried only Estes and Centuri products. It wasn't until years later that I found out MPC made more than just car models.

If they still have one left I would love to get one can you send me the name of the shop?

MPC early 1970's ????

Or are you thinking MRC, late 1980's to early 1990's?

Totally different pads. I wish I had an old MPC pad again. MRC pad ..... "meh".

Well, $85 is more than I'd be willing to pay for an MPC pad.

But wow, that was a whole Starter Set with controller and a NIKE SMOKE (and a few engines apparently).

Plus the box, unopened! Still outside of my budget, but somebody got a really nice deal for $85.

I agree. I've never seen that particular starter set before. To get a new sealed set with all those goodies was a steal at $85 in my opinion. Whereas boxed MPC kits show up all the time on eBay, I've never seen a sealed starter set there.
