You could say that about a lot of modern shows.
Take "House" or the old "Quincy" for example. While there is no one doctor like that, the cases did actually happen at one time or another to a doctor somewhere. Then there is the new "Scorpion". If you look up Walter O'Brian, they say he is full-of-it too. They have to make them a bit exciting every week or no one would watch them. __________________________________________________ ________________ Last edited by mycrofte : 11-20-2014 at 04:08 PM. |

As with a lot of older shows, I thought Quincy was pretty good when it was on originally. Now - watching the old reruns, I realized just how "preachy" that show was. Every week it seemed like they highlighted a different social cause. Likewise, I originally liked Emergency - now I find it tedious and the "humor" especially stilted. The character of Chet was particularly obnoxious - every time I see him I want to throw a shoe though the TV screen! One show that I still find very entertaining and not the least bit dated is Wild Wild West. Even after all these years it still feels fresh!

I remember reading somewhere that episodes of Adam 12 were and still used as training aids by some departments to show procedures and how an officer SHOULD behave. I am sure that a bit of the episodes are dated for most departments now, but who could imagine a federal government supplying military grade weapons and equipment back then?

I too find the 'Chet' character in Emergency! incredibly annoying.
I still think Randolph Mantooth always has a look on his face like he just crapped his pants.

Close, but I just think he didn't finish his Acting 101 class - whenever the story involves anything other than actually treating a patient, he's so wooden his character might as well be played by Pinocchio. The whole "Yuk, Yuk, Yuk - isn't this clever byplay while we wait for another rescue hilarious" crap makes me want to gag. Like I said - I remembered it a lot more fondly, but I guess memory is rose colored when it comes to old TV shows. Very few of the old shows hold up today - Wild Wild West, Star Trek, WKRP in Cincinatti, Night Court - oh, and I've been enjoying my new boxed set of Search. About the only network shows that are holding my attention these days are the newer superhero shows - I'm really getting into SHIELD, and I'm quite enjoying Gotham and Flash as well.

My girlfriend really likes Gotham, but I on the other hand think it STINKS.
Would rather watch Rifleman reruns from the early 60's.

I'd have thought you'd really be into the girl-on-girl action at the end of last week's episode!

SERIOUSLY?? THAT sort of thing is EXACTLY why I don't watch modern TV shows... I was enjoying "Bomb Girls" til they HAD to go there... Turn it into a freak show... oh well, I still have an "OFF" button! Oh well... Later! OL JR

That is my biggest problem with "The Flash" being on CW. They changed the characters and turned it into another Dawson's Creek.
