I saw this rocket on ninfinger and I have to ask
Ok. I'm trolling through the ninfinger site, awesome resource by the way, and I have a love at first site moment.
The picture of the rocket is located here. Rocket Times Goodies Fall 1975 It's the rocket middle, top of page, the tip is going up into the lower case "d" on the word "Goodies" It's an ad for a Decal grab bag from discontinued kits. So my question is... Was the rocket, that was used in that ad, ever an actual kit. I think it's pretty cool, and I would like to build one to add to my fleet. If it never existed in real life, maybe it's time that it did. Anyone have any info? David

I think it was just another in-house bird built with whatever parts were handy to show the decal possibilities. Estes had several birds shown in their catalogs over the years that were just drawings showing how different parts could fit together to make a custom rocket. I built one of them a few years ago. http://archive.rocketreviews.com/re...ik_depris.shtml

Hyper Astro
I built the fictional Hyper Astro a few years ago with a lot of help from two other very talented rocketeers.
Here's the linky. http://www.oldrocketforum.com/showt...highlight=astro

It was just an advertising vehicle as Bill mentioned. It was no different that the ones on this Estes designer special page, or the Hyper Astro that dlazarus6660 posted.

Thanks for the help.
It looks like Centuri didn't use the BT20, BT60, etc. designations for their body tudes, but I think they used #7, #8, etc. I need to go learn about that system, and the start scaling in out. I think I'll start at the bottom, with the cluster of tubes. I'm pretty sure those are 18mm motor mount tubes, once I get the tube cluster proportioned correctly, then I think I will work out from there. It seems like a logical place to start. Does anyone have any better ideas? Thanks, David

Their tube designations are roughly their diameters in inches. A #16 tube is about 1.6" in diameter. It's their BT60. Here is a tube size chart for Centuri. The extra number indicates length. Ex. #1618 is an 18" long piece of #16 tubing. http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/bo...es.html#centuri Estes http://www.ninfinger.org/rockets/body_tubes.html

Very helpful. Thanks! So an ST-73 would basically be an 18mm engine tube. Correct? David

SEMROC carries all of the same tube sizes as both Estes and Centuri. When you see their "series 5" or "series 7" tubes, then those are the same as the Centuri ST-5 or ST-7 families. The numbers tell you the diameter and the general length of the tube. For example, an ST-73 (Centuri number) is the same as the SEMROC ST-730. It means a "series 7" tube, which is 0.759" diameter and 3" long. ST-7 tubing is slightly larger in diameter than Estes BT-20. Both ST-7 and BT-20 are considered as 18mm engine tubes. SEMROC classifies the Centuri components as "Standard Tubes", and the Estes tubes as "Classic Tubes". Spend some time browsing through their website, drooling uncontrollably over all of the parts they offer. It's a rocket builder's wishbook on steroids.

David, Centuri would use Paper Reducers for most of the transitions, if I was going to clone this Model, I would start with the Core Tube (Engine Mount Tube) an ST-7 a PR713 Transition the ST-13, Main Body Tube and then another transition PR 813 with the ST8 tube and the BC83 Nose Cone. the small tubes (5) that surround the Core Tube would be ST-53 with BC-51 nose cones . and the fins attach at the joint of these small tubes. I estimate that the model is 21.65" tall. I think SEMROC has all of these parts and this would not be very difficult to build. 1.25 to bottom of tube , 3" core tube, 1.5 transition, 8"main body tube, 1.7 transition, 3" upper body tube, 3.2" nose cone. remember the ST7 and the ST8 over lap into the Transitions. Good Luck with this project, and Merry Christmas To All
