Default B14 question ? Drilled vs Pintle port date.

Yep, it's me with another B14 question.
I know they switched from the large-nozzle and drilled core to the smaller nozzle and "B8 like" pintle-pressed core sometime between 1970 and 1974.
Does anyone have a closer date estimation ?

I think the non-drilled B14s started showing up around 1974 or 1975.

in the 1969 Estes catalog it shows the main B14 core as 0.165" while the 1967 shows the main core as 0.1875". THis is shown all the way back to the 1964 catalog as 0.1875" Also the 1967 diagram shows a 2 step core while the 69 shows a 3 step core....ie more of a formed main core with a drilled center bore. The motor diagrams that were published back then were for the most part pretty accurate representations of what the real motors looked like.
The 1970 Estes catalog was the last catalog to include model diagrams. The B14 diagrams shows a 3 step formed nozzle 0.165 with a drilled center bore .

1970 was around the time that DAMON took over so I can only speculate that posting those internal motor diagrams was removed as it was basically detailing Estes IP.
In May 1978 Trip Barber did a report that included some tests on B14 and he measured the main core at 0.17" which is close to the 0.165" core from 1969.

Ed Brown in the mid-2000's sent me an AeroISP simulation of a B14 with a 0.188" core . This simulation was based on what Ed Called "OLD BP" which means Estes 60's BP.

Roy Green and Doug Sams probably knows much more about B14. There was threads both here and TRF about B14 that may provide additional info

1974 sounds about right. My motor collection is in storage a ways away so i can’t compare. The B14s from Vern that I got at NARAM 49 auction and asked Vern about were pintle motors and were dated either 74 or 75.

A friend got a retail box of Centuri B14s from 74 (had the Estes printed version of the early 70’s Centuri label). And flew one this weekend and didn’t get quite the results he was expecting (tho it was definitely stronger than any current B motor!).
