Default "Precious Stones" (links)

Hello All,

Jean-Jacques Serra, a French rocketry and space flight historian and author (he has also contributed historical information and scale data to Peter Alway’s works) has created scale drawings and décor scheme documentation on the historically significant “Precious Stones.” These test vehicles proved the propulsion, guidance, and re-entry vehicle technologies that made possible France’s national satellite launch vehicles and ballistic missiles, and:

They were called the Agate, Rubis (Ruby), Topaze (Topaz), Emeraude (Emerald), and Saphir (Sapphire). His drawings of these vehicles are attached below; while he created these particular drawings with paper models in mind, they can easily be converted—by printing them on card stock—to flying scale model rockets. He also added the following notes about their décor schemes:

The Saphir P stripes are blue and the Saphir G stripes are red (there is no version with stripes of 2 colors :-) ). Also, the VE111C and VE111L each have 4 conduits, and the VE111LG has only 2 conduits. In the same manner, the Emeraude’s inert 2nd stage has 4 conduits, and the Saphir's 2nd stage has 2 conduits. *ALSO*, below are two websites that are pertinent to Jean-Jacques Serra’s space flight history research, including his “Rockets in Europe” website (which covers the Precious Stones series, as well as many other suborbital and orbital vehicles):

I hope this material will be helpful.
