Build thread: Shrockets Sea Sting
Now to build something that's REALLY different!: the Shrockets Sea Sting (by Apogee).
The kit's contents appear to be absolutely premium. Laser-slotted main BT, laser-cut balsa sheet, and pre-slit decals. Here we go. TBC

First the engine mount. I added one component to the mount: a mylar retaining ring. If it ends up interfering with the mounting of the fin's tabs into the slots, I'll modify the tabs if necessary.
Now with the engine mount and it's Kevlar shock cord epoxied into the BT55, I use a long aluminum angle to pencil the lines of the wings, top fin, strake, and belly scoop rib. I've oriented the engine hook between the belly scoop rib and the starboard wing because that's where the launch lugs will be. Next I sand the edges of the balsa pieces on the Corian board that's covered with 220 and then assemble the wings and belly scoop central rib on another Corian board that's covered with waxed paper. The last steps of the evening.
I mount the wing assemblies into the slots and then brace them as the glue sets with a crosspiece and clothespins. I then mount the belly scoop's central rib, the top rudder and the strake. Lastly, I have a shot (or more) of the gift that "The Vixen" gave me at Christmas! Good night. TBC

Now for some technique:
Once the slit tube is over the ventral fin, the ventral fin will be rather difficult to sand, seal, finish, and paint. Therefore, I'll paper the exposed portions of the ventral fin with pieces of cardstock and Elmer's white. After the glue dries and I slit the excess paper from the balsa, I then brush Elmer's into the exposed balsa endgrain at each end of the ventral fin. After that glue dries I then sand the ends. It should look perfect when it's painted. I then mount the (2) 1/8" launch lugs. I then apply epoxy fillets to the wings (top only), rudder, strake, and ventral fin. ....and that's all for a while. I'm headed to Havelock, NC for at least (2) weeks. Time for a Scotch! Good night. TBC
