Default Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated!

In case you've been wondering, I'm still kicking. And, in case you haven't, I'm still kicking too!

I've just been busy with other sh.., er, stuff. Been working like an old mule on my son's man cave, fighting off a bad case of deep tissue shingles, building fin jigs for Apogee and fantasizing about chasing a certain airline stewardess through fields of clover. I haven't been doing much rocketry but I did manage to knock one thing off my bucket list, thanks to my son Charlie.

Last month, October 16-18 to be precise, we hopped on an airplane to Sacramento, rented a car and traveled north to Humboldt County where he and I got to see the redwood trees at the Avenue of the Giants near Garberville. Awesome! Absolutely jaw dropping! Then we took a side trip up to Eureka, ate fresh halibut fish and chips and finally hit Moonstone Beach and waded into the surf of the Pacific Ocean at sunset.

Ten hours on airplanes and ten more in a rental car just for eight hours of sightseeing, and worth every minute!

Good for you! Everybody should see that, sorta' makes you feel small.
I was lucky enough to grow up around redwood trees.
I even played banjo at Roaring Camp, a train ride through the redwoods.
Funny, when you grow up around it you can take it for granted.
Now when I visit California I try to go see them.

We didn't arrive at our hotel (The Historic Benbow Inn) until well after dark so our first view of one of these mammoth trees was captured by the rental car's headlights. Even so, it was breathtaking, almost like seeing a ghost. I would go again in a heartbeat...health and finances permitting.

Glad to hear you're managing with the health issues and enjoying life... nothing like seeing the awesomeness of nature to help one gain perspective on one's place in the universe...

Hope you had a really nice time! OL J R
