Default New Project My Falcon Commander build

This is a BT-60 version but it will have a different finish, not all white.

Made a new nose cone (for me I use scraps of balsa and glue them together)

Cut out the upscale fins.

Made the motor mount

Have to sand the fins yet.

Since I can no longer make decal I will cobble something together.

I made decals for a very long time and I have a lot of oopses decals pieces to chose from.

Fins are on and here she is posed with her little sister.

I have to add the fin fillets and a whole bunch of sanding to go.

The scale is 168% upscaled. Not a lot but enough for a 24mm motor.

You can't see it but I did remember the launch lug!

It looks fast standing still.

The other model that looks fast standing still is the Black Brant II.

Thanks, I know a guy who makes 'em.

If anyone is interested I can do a step by step "how it's made".

It's surprisingly easy to do.

Really, it's not hard, for me anyway.

Hmmm...

That statement (coming from you!) means that the rest of us will find it merely...insanely difficult!

Seriously, Gordy, I think your wisdom on the technique to replicate this cone that was used in so many Estes designs - but in larger scales of wood - would be of great interest to many here, and I include myself in that list!

Gordy,

That's really nice!

Where'd the grip for the knife handle come from?

Bob

Thanks, nothing to see yet. Sand, fill, sand, fill...etc you guys know the routine.

She's basically gray primer with spots filled.

The knife handles are home made from scrap wood. I like the feel of a wood handle.

Coco Bolo Black Walnut, Purple Heart, Osage Orange, mahogany...whatever I have laying around.

I get scrap wood from a local custom cabinet shop. They use a lot of exotic woods .

Occasionally I do some small turning jobs for them so they let me rummage through their scraps.

The big pointy thing is a scratch all punch made from an old drill bit and over on the left are some marking knives for wood working.

The marking knife blades are from old worn out SawsAll blades...I don't thow much of anything away.
