Blasting westbound through SW Wyoming today........
Open road..........Open throttle!!
Now THAT'S more like it! (I wish my rental was something faster than a V6 Impala)

That road is so straight! Oh...the agony!
Gimme curves, curves, and more curves!

There were plenty of curves in Utah between Park City and SLC, and on a 9% down grade. If I'd tried to get a picture of that section I would have died most horribly.

I like straight roads in my Corvette.
Will hit almost 200...well within 5-6mph anyway.

Looks a lot like I-10 out in west Texas, except we don't have those hills until you get close to El Paso.

I know that hill well. In 1983 I quit my job in the SF Bay Area to move the family home to Colorado. Since it was not a corporate transfer, we rented the biggest Ryder truck available. We also towed our car. I was climbing that grade out of SLC in that POS “we only rent new trucks” Ryder truck, in the far right lane. Doing about 15MPH, maybe. What’s ahead of me around a bend, but an old VW Bug, maybe doing 14MPH. I could never slow down, I’d never get going again. I could not pass, I’d be in Colorado before getting past him. I layed on the horn, basically announcing that I was coming, and he better move, or prepare for impact. He pulled into the lane to the left, I kept in that far right lane, and just kept going. I never noticed what the Bug did after that. I was still panicking at the thought of coming up on another crawler in my lane. Epilogue: We made it to Colorado, but I remember practically standing up in the cab to try to apply enough pressure on the gas peddle to make it up those endless series of rises, then falls. We finally got close, we got within two miles of our new home, and then the engine blew. It had to be towed to our house to unload it.

That's a great story! Did you have to pay for the blown motor?

No, we actually fought them and got a reduced fee for the move. They were pretty reasonable about it. The truck looked OK, but it had plenty of miles on it. I can look back now and kind of laugh at the experience, I cannot imagine doing a long distance move myself again. Of course, we have so much junk now, it might take more than a full sized moving van!

I know what you mean. Your never really know just how much stuff you have until you have to move it all.
