Default Critical Mass

While searching through The Rocket Room a few weeks ago for a couple of old Alpha kits, I came to the realization that it's time to tidy up. My excuse up to now has always been that regardless of how cluttered it looked, it was a controlled chaos; I could put my hands on anything I needed within 5 minutes. Not so anymore. It took a good hour to find one of the kits and another half-day to find the other, tho in no small part due the distractions of 'finding' a number of unrelated kits, parts, motors, and ephemera that I hadn't laid eyes on in years. The goal is to get this mess sorted back into a somewhat organized room that I can move around in without knocking anything over. Below are the 'Before' photographs, hopefully to be followed soon by the 'After'.

Wow . . . this actually makes me feel a little better about my rocket area! Being in a garage, I can use cheap ugly shelving and plastic bins.

I found a great, long plastic bin a few years ago that is just long enough to neatly fit 34" / 36" body tubes. I am not sure what is was made to store . . . rolls of gift wrap paper perhaps?

A similar cardboard box holds balsa and basswood stock.

My work table was a horror until I dumpster-dove a set of cheap wood shelves. It fit under the bench, and as they turn up at Goodwill I've been buying these colorful plastic bins. Tools and materials get sorted in.

The downside of keeping everything down there is rocket puttering is less comfortable and spontaneous.

Probably - I have a couple of those tho for BT storage, I use corrugated boxes. I like to keep the tubes standing on-end rather than flat, and the boxes I have them in are easier to store.

Bins, Drawers and boxes I have (see below) - just not enough.

I agree. Though my room has gotten out of hand, I do like having everything within reach. I still have 3 or 4 plastic storage containers of kits downstairs to go through as well.
