Goony question
Has anyone cloned any of the original Estes Goonys using an 18mm engine mount in place of the 13mm mount? Was it necessary to add weight to the nose to compensate for the added weight of the larger engine?

I built an original "Sky Shriek" and a "Zoom Broom" back in the early to mid 80's and powered them both with 18mm A's and B's for several flights with no added nose weight.
They flew fine. As long as your clone uses the same components (weight wise) I'm sure they would fly similar to my original kits....just don't go using any epoxy attached though-the-wall-attached basswood or aircraft ply for fins. Note that I did not ever fly them on a "C" engine, which weighs considerably more than an A or B. I suspect you would be okay with a C, but I can only positively speak for the A&B.

Excellent. I only planned to fly them on A and B motors anyway. They seem like small field rockets to me.
Thanks for the response.
