Estes Sea Dart No. 1901
Poring over the '83 Catalog as a child, the Sea Dart seemed a far-away Fever Dream, as unobtainable as it was exotic. (As exotic as I'm redundant.) Seriously, I never saw many of these kits on toy store shelves, like the Sea Dart and Star Speeder, although somehow I got my hands on a Hyperion, of which I have vague memories of cobbling together.
I scored a partially-assembled Sea Dart on Ebay a number of years ago and finally pulled it off its shelf the other night. The booster assembly was slapped together with CA and the Launch Rail Ms had their balsa details misaligned via yellow wood glue; both came apart cleanly. I cut a new BT-50AE? from a crimped Alpha tube. The actual part is 1", although in the Spec Sheet it mistakenly calls for the BT-50AE which is 1.5". Also needed a fresh BT-20D 6.5" that was sliced from stock. I cut Rail Detail replacements from 1/8" Square Stock. The glue staining is visible on the M Rails. As it stands, I've colored the edges to be rounded with marker, after sanding I'll hit the Balsa Bits with thinned CWF. Father MillerCoors has blessed me with a can of his New Recipe Ice Beer; I'm scared to open it. |

I wonder if this could be converted to two stages? The design is similar to the Airborne Surveillance Missile - which also looks stageable...booster would have to be 13mm I suppose, would that move the sustainer fast enough that the small fin area woulkd be effective?

Spirals? Two heavy coats of 2X Primer.
After cleaning up the fins, I can glue them on the prepped BT.
The Conduit Covers are another story. The bottoms will need contour sanding to seat on the BT & there's all that beveling to be done. How 'bout that Matty Comeback? |

Let 'em rest for 15, then again.
Application of YWG to fin's root edge, touch to Body Tube. Apply more YWG to fin, let it tack-up for 5 minutes then apply fin. Clean up with Q-tip along fin edges, then let 'em set up for 15. Repeat as necessary.

+1 for making it two-stage if only even an A10-0T in the booster.

Just dropped in,
