Default Estes ICARUS fin patterns ????

I'm in the process of cutting a new batch of fins for the 'next round of projects' .

One of these is the Estes Icarus payloader ( will make a nice little brother to my vintage Maxi Icarus ) .

However, the plans on Jim Z's do not have a fin pattern .

There is a fin pattern / profile in the instructions sheet, which I thought might be full size - that prints out with a 1" root edge and seems small for the rocket.

Can anyone verify the size of the fins ?

Then I can adjust the pattern as shown - or if there's a scan of the fins available, please send to Jim / YORP ( or post here as well

Thanks again for the help ,

~ AL

Al,

When I built my Icarus, I used the fin pattern (attached) as a guide. I think it's close to the pattern (shape) in the instructions. My root edge is referenced to the height of the roll bar decal just above the fins. My measurement using PhotoShop as a guide suggested the root edge was the same height, and this came to 1.5". I just scaled up the drawing to fit.

Addendum: I just looked again at my clone, and found a measurement that was off in the passage above. The fin root IS 1.5", but the decal is closer to 2" tall. The root came to about 3/4 of the decal height...

Craig,

Thanks for the advice, will use the 1.5" mentioned and see what it looks like.

This is one I remember from my childhood, never had ( although wasn't really on the want list ).
I have a couple of the clear tubes, so looks like a good one to use em on

Leo,

Mind if I post it? It will more than likely be quite awhile, if at all, that Jim has time post it to his site.

Ofcourse you may

I thought since it says

"I'm Back!

Thank you for your patience! "

on his site, things would get rolling again.

Guess not then.

Thanks.

Jim posted that in Spring and he added two whopping plans.

Ohh!

Well, then I guess I know where to go now

OR everyone can just go to my web site and browse through it. I have the scans there also.

And if anyone is looking for something just give me a note and I'll see what I can do.

I know this is a REALLY old thread, but I was looking for the Icarus fin pattern as well. I found it here and had a heck of a time getting them to print right, or see the lines. So I sorta massaged the two patterns together and posted it here (rather than start a whole new tread).

Semroc has the laser-cut fins for the Icarus. I had one of these back in the day, I liked the clean lines of it. I plan to clone one soon. A very easy conversion can be made by using the Nova Payloader and just changing the fins to that of the Icarus.
