AMEN TO THAT, Harold !!! We all have the ones we loved as a kid, like the 1 I've told you about many times that my Mom took me to- in Charlotte, NC, "Science Hobbies". They had Telescopes, Chemistry Sets,, everything! I still have Their order form, plus a few residual items left over with their price tag on it, 1 being an old Estes Vostok, parts, etc. They used to sell/cut Volcanic Geodes in half for us,, never knew what colors you'd get, 'till it was cut. Last time I went, 10 yr. or so ago-it was a Beauty Salon,,, eeek! Danny.

I remember Snipes Toys and Hobbies here in Columbia on Taylor Street, 1/2 block away from the Baptist Hospital. When my Dad would go make rounds at the hospital, I'd tag along to go the hobby shop. I even learned how to take the bus downtown to get there at the tender age of 12!
There was not a single unoccupied space in that hobby shop. It was wonderful. No matter how many times I may have been there, I could always pass a large amount of time perusing all the rockets (Estes, all, but a LOT of them) and model airplanes engines and supplies. Slot cars, too! It's where I got my first rocket kits and control-line airplanes. I miss it greatly... Allen |
