BTW, has anyone tried to buy talcum powder lately? I could only find cornstarch at 3 stores I checked today.
Before this asbestos thing broke, there was another bad story about talcum powder causing cervical cancer. Frankly, I'm not concerned about either of these issues, but it may be moot point given what I'm (not) seeing on the shelf at stores of late. Doug .

I use unscented talc for the latex seals on my scuba drysuit. Scents are oil based and will degrade the latex over time. It's a hazmat suit so it doesn't use neoprene like many recreational drysuits. There are a couple of fairly economical talc sources still available. 1. billiards/pool talc. 2. inner tube talc. Both are unscented powders and dispense the same way as baby powder. I'm using the Silver Cup stuff because it was available when I needed it. I still have an old travel size container of J&J Baby powder I use for chutes. Makes 'em smell...pretty.

The BIG problem is that Talc & Asbestos are often intermingled in Nature. As a result, when Talc is mined, the Asbestos is mined, right along with it.

Yes, a mixture of .01% asbestos to 99.99% talc would be harmless regarding the amount of asbestos. You've already done such thousands of times in your life. Ratio amounts to total volume are important... |

So, how does one know the percentage of Asbestos in a particular batch of talcum powder ? Obviously, it could vary widely . . . Playing "Russian Roulette", so to speak. To those of you who have read this information, you have been warned. Those of you who heed the warning are wise, while those of you who dismiss it may regret having done so, later. Merry Christmas !
