In post #7 I said it was all about fun. But what I didn't say it is that, for me, it is all about kids having fun. So if the kids are happy with Dudes, Wacky Wigglers, Venus Probes, and the like then I am happy.

Digressing a little, I've attended several launches this year as an onsite vendor. I put in a lot of effort getting ready and I sometimes wonder why I do it. It all became clear why when at an August launch a little girl about eight years old bought a rocket (Estes Bandito) and ran from the tent smiling and sceaming at the top of her lungs "I've got my own rocket."

Priceless.

Rich, I'm gonna throw a brick at you.....

No RULES, No LIMITS does NOT mean no SANITY.

If I was to fly one of those stoopyd things the inflatable would have to be inflated with a mix of gaseous Hydrogen and Oxygen so max destruction of the stoopyd thing would occur at sometime in the flight. Most likely right on the pad when particles bouncing off the blast deflektor burn through the body causing a catastrophic hull breach.
That would be worthwhile to see.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

Oh the Humanity! At least the Dad and his kid with their Dude won the odd roc competition on the Discovery Channel show, and that wasn't so stupid or without any socially redeeming value. . . oh darn it, GH wins again!

When we were kids we didn't have any Dudes. We mowed acres of lawn just to buy a Big Bertha. Slaved with edible Elmers and toxic dopes to get the perfect finish on the difficult old school paint job. Dreamed of launching it on a C motor and WE LIKED IT! And look at us - through all the pain and suffering we all turned out OK! Now back to my "perfect-to-scale missile shuttle surface-to-air something or other" and I'm a countin' those rivets - a one, a two, a three. . .

For some real fun, fill one up with helium, sneak it out to the pad and hold it down with the igniter clips. When it is launched, watch the reaction from the crowd as it keeps going.

No, maybe just living in MI does.

I do agree though, big balloons do not equal good rockets.

Agreed. The "Dude hatred" reminds me of a one-panel comic that I once saw in an issue of "Reader's Digest." At an art museum during a school field trip, a teacher said to her class: "Just because the painting doesn't happen to appeal to Marvin doesn't necessarily mean that it stinks." I never cared for The Dude, but it appealed to kids, and if it enticed some of them to become model rocketeers, then it fulfilled its purpose.

And if the great unwashed shelled out $40 for one, it REALLY served its purpose for Estes.
