Well the guy on ebay with the Maxi V-2 (with the wrong fins) sold it for $57.32 plus $8.45
in shipping costs. I wonder if the buyer, once they read the instructions and find out it should have come with vacuform fins will be happy with the purchase. I've seen complete unstarted kits selling for what he paid for one that was started and didn't contain the correct fins. |

With some shame, I gotta admit, I sold my one V-2 kit. I had bought the 2.6" Comet with the expectation of bashing it into a V-2, then Estes reissued the 2.6" V-2 and I bought it. Later, I decided these weren't very compelling and sold them both NIB. On the one hand, it's a classic scale kit and thus popular. On the other, it's little more than a 3FNC and thus not all that sexy from a complexity/technology perspecitve. So I cashed mine in and spent the money on other rocketry stuff. I probably could stand to do that with some of my other unbuilt kits, too. While it lacked the Maxi's detail, the 2.6" kit seemed to be a good compromise between size and building effort. That was why it appealed to me. But I later decided I'd rather spend the build time on something else. I do have a BMS V-2 nosecone/tailcone pair I need to do something with..one of these days.... You can get the details if you try.
And make a template. This is my BT-80 Bumper WAC based on the Estes V-2. The fins are 1/16" basswood.

What is the differance between your #1267 v-2 and the #1952 v-2 kit?
I bought a #1267 recently and the body tube, nose cone and lower body are much thinner than my other #1267 v-2 kit. I'm led to believe tjhe person I bought it from someone put a #1952 body parts in a #1267 box. Anyone know the difference between the old maxi-brut kit (#1267) and the newer (#1952)? |

The biggest difference is that the #1267 "Maxi" V-2 came with a nice write up documentation on the German version. You can download that from JimZ's site. http://www.dars.org/jimz/est1267.htm And if I recall...it was a long time ago...the #1267 came with one spare fin. Other than that they are identical.

Yeah, the big V2 was one of my "babies" back in the 1970s. The mid-body tube was cardboard, but the rest of the components -- nose, fins, lower body w/engine mount -- were all plastic. After many beautiful launches & returns, the V2 finally ate it one day. So, I gathered up the durable bits (which was most of it) and headed back to the shop for a rebuild. Turns out I also had some Pershing scraps, so I used the Pershing body tube and V2 plastic bits to construct a long-bodied V2 -- like a "stretch" V2 -- and re-rigged the engine mount for three D12 motors. Painted the whole thing glossy black, gave it a cherry red re-entry glow on the nose and fins. Looked like a quaint 1930s ICBM, flew like a bat out of hell, but just once.
