I wanted to add to Steve's old thread...I built my Sonic 160 almost exactly the same and finally had a chance to fly it last weekend.

F15-0 to F15-8 direct staged off a 6' rail with an el cheapo peak altitude altimeter and a beeper. 3" by 3' streamer for recovery. It flew great, way high, and was not visible at ejection (via motor delay) due to overcast conditions. I heard the pop clearly, and then picked up the beeper. Interesting it had weathercocked into the wind quite a bit, and as it drifted down I could hear the directionality of the sound from the beeper changing from downrange to directly overhead, and then finally past me in the opposite direction .

That's when I got a visual on it, maybe 200 yards from the truck at touchdown. The beeper really saved the day.

3350'. I think if it had gone perfectly straight it might have gone 4K.

I have pondered a G80-4T in the booster staged to an old single use AT G25 (no thrust ring) using old school upper stage ignition techniques.

Flew this thing again yesterday with F15's in both stages. Jeez did it go bye-bye. I didn't put a beeper in it this time and thought would be lost for sure as it headed significantly downrange.

Got lucky and found it - 3680'!!!

If you do a 2 stage G, put the lower thrust on the booster and have 2 seconds staging delay.
