My inner geek SCREAMS!!!
FLY ME!!!!! TONIGHT !!!!!!!!! This showed up on the porch today. I've never been a Star Trek fan, but everything about this set is just incredibly cool. The launcher itself is what initially caused me to make the bid on this, and it was worth the price of entry all on its own. (But being able to party like it's 1977 with the rocket is also pretty sharp. ) B6-4 Field is in use at the moment, but I'm off tonight, and if we don't get hosed by Ma Nature tonight, I might just sneak off for a morning launch tomorrow.

I agree, I always thought that battery based launcher was a smart idea.
That blast deflector seems a little small tho.

The deflector is a bit small for routine use. I had this same launcher (in black) that came with the Battlestar Galactic set in the late 70s. Having started out with the Centuri Power Pad a couple years before that, this pad worked out well with my existing lantern batteries I used at the time. But that small round deflector was not quite as 'protective' as the Centuri angled deflector that came with my Sceaming Eagle starter set. In all though, I thought those lantern top launchers by Centuri and Estes fairly clever and very functional (and portable... via ten-speed bike back in the day). Earl

Is the Fin Can a little more robust than the current "generic" BT 50 can?

You have offended the Klingon Empire...
How? Because you got the winning bid, instead of me... Use it well Terran...

That was kind of a shocker. To me it seems nowhere close. One of the fins is slightly damaged, but not enough to keep it from flying. Looks like some kind of chemical or glue attacked it. All in all, the fins seem a good 25% thinner than the current fin can.

The old Star Trek/Challenger 1 fin can was from a different mold. It had retangular fins where the Generic E2X has a slightly swept leading edge. The old can had a slight diamond shaped airfoil, where the modern one is wedge shaped. The thick trailing edge of the wedge makes the modern can quite a bit stiffer.
