Unfortunately, that wouldn't really work. Someone in one of the forums did the calculations and showed that helium would only reduce the weight of The Dude by about 20%. :-(

Speaking of eBay prices ... we sold a The Dude set on eBay for ... nothing,. nada, zilch ... $0 ....

Actually, we sold it at a loss of whatever it cost us to ship it. We thought it was a new, unopened set, but, the buyer reported a part missing. Since it was worth less than the cost of return shipping, we just refunded his payment.

Yes ... we lose a little on each sale, but we make it up in volume! (But, not enough volume to be lighter than air ....)

Tell me you didn't.
Well, at least I went back and changed "some moron" to "the great unwashed" before I sent it.
What it all boils down to is personal taste. To me, McRib was just a wad of formed pig lips soaked in something created to resemble barbecue sauce, but my Grandma was a big fan. The Dude is a lot like the McRib. The formed pig lips of the rocketry world. Yummy! Enjoy!

At NARAM 49 a truly great kid launched a Dude in E-Superroc Altitude. It didn't win, but it flew way better than a lot of the stuff that day!

Better be careful or I may let it slip how Detroit gave a key to the city to Saddam Hussein. Now you want to talk about a mistake by the lake.

Been to both, and there's really nothing to compare. Cleveland is a really nice city to visit and very little remains from the "Mistake on the Lake" image from the 1970's. Lots to see and do. Great old buildings everywhere you look. Great restaurants. A really nice transit system. They've come a long, LONG way since the days when the river would occasionally burn. Detroit has casinos. Lots of great old buildings abandoned everywhere you look. Wide open ghetto space. I'm sure there's something worth talking about there, but they do a good job of hiding it. Reminds me a lot of Cincinnati.

When I got into sales 22 years ago, one of my first trips was to Cleveland. Up until then, my perception of the place was largely garnered from Johnny Carson's monologue jokes about the place

Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. And the Italian fare was excellent.

My colleagues had escorted me for the day with Paul picking up breakfast and Joe getting lunch. So dinner was my turn. Keep in mind, I had yet to submit my first expense report, so I was rather tentative about anything my boss, the VP, might consider excessive.

Joe picked out a nice, family run Italian restaurant. We were seated at the table, and then the waiter came to take our order, Joe asked for the chef to come out. Then he proceeded to go off the menu and placed a custom order. My mind was racing, wondering just how high the bill for custom dinner would be, and how tight my @$$ was gonna be when my boss called me on the carpet for it

As it turned out, we got out of there for about 75 bucks as I recall, so it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, but it was quite stressful for a while there

Anyway, one of these days, maybe I'll get back up there for some of that good cooking.

Doug

Default Dude alternate

I think that the Super Soaker Monster Rocket is a similar concept, but realized as a water rocket. It's loads of fun on a hot, calm summer day, and the reloads are as cheap as tap water.

It's been discontinued because it wasn't idiot-proof enough for unsupervised toddlers, even though it's has some impressive fail-safe valves built into the base. They're still seen on e-Bay-type auction boards from time to time.

This doesn't help to price out "The Dude", but I thought I'd mention it as a cool alternative.

Those were some bad days.

Although I never owned a Dude I did see one fly on TV.
It was on a Science Chanel show called Large and Dangerous Rocket Ships. (LDRS),
The Show was hostedess by the Totally Hot where do I find a Woman like that
Kari Byron from Mythbusters.
Oh Ya, about the rocket. The Dude was used by a father and son team to win the Odd Roc
contest. I think I remember it beat out the fling Sh*t house. ( if that don't tell you something).

I had a chance to buy several models of the Dude Closed-Out real Cheap
at Walmart, I passed.

I don't know if they show the actual footage of the Dude in flight, but go to
Large and Dangerous Rocket Ships with Kari Byron on Google and you might find it.
