Default skyhighhobbies - Beware

I don't normally post negative stuff about vendors but I know many of you buy and sell old rockets and I thought I should give you a heads up. I've seen the old MPC Minirocs from skyhighhobbies offered on ebay and elsewhere for years. I finally decided to buy a Minirocs Taurus -1 from him on ebay and the photos below show how it was packaged and sent.

I couldn't believe anyone selling old kits for years would actually do this, stuff a kit into an obviously too small box putting a big crease across an otherwise pristine header card. When I contacted him about it there was no apology, or offer of a solution, other than to suggest that somehow my level of expectation was too high. I asked him if he had another one and perhaps we could work something out but he said he didn't.

He told me I could return the kit for a refund (at my expense) and commented "...sorry this 45 year old kit doesnt look new."

Rather than paying $10 to return a $13 kit and being left with nothing, I decided to just leave him negative feedback (first time I've done that in almost 20 years on ebay).

His next two responses were:

"I returned the favor with feedback ;-) Don't bother bidding on my auctions again." (like I would ever buy anything from him again, LOL).

and then "turns out I had one last kit left in mint condition...just posted it." Clearly meant to show he could have easily solved the problem he caused but didn't want to.

So I thought I'd give you fellow collectors a heads up. Just not a guy worth dealing with.

Steve

What a POS Dirtbag.
Thanks for the heads-up, Steve.

Scott,

I actually looked him up on here before I posted. I knew he had been selling these kits a LONG time and that's why I was so surprised at his behavior. It's almost like he was angry with me for buying the kit. He was so"in your face, f**k you!" both in the way he jammed the kit into a too short box and in his "I couldn't care less, in fact, if you're pissed, I'm happy" response.

Really surprising behavior for a long time vendor.

You can complain to Ebay. Possibly get a full or partial refund. And you can get the negative feedback that he gave you deleted. Retaliatory feedback for sellers on Ebay is not an option. Save all of your posts with him as evidence.

We buy "long boxes" from uline.com to overcome the bad box sizes from USPS. $0.48 each or so.

Don't forget to charge him your "shop rate" of $65 per hour.

FYI Sellers haven't been able to leave Negative FB for buyers for years now.

Just one more thing. In case any of you are unaware, the post office has no objections to customers nesting their free Priority Mail shoebox boxes (photo below). Very easy to do, just squeeze one end of one of the boxes to slide it into the other. Put your kits inside and slide the upper box down to the appropriate length. These are perfect for mailing rocket kits because you can adjust the size to appropriately fit most rocket kits. Added benefit is that it double boxes the kits keeping them a bit safer.

Good tip. Thanks. FWIW the kits I ordered from him were packaged in regular boxes with crumpled paper for packing. I feel bad for leaving such positive feedback after seeing how he handled your purchase.
