Default KC-6 Space Shuttle - Variation on a Theme

Here's something I've wanted to do for a long time. Several years ago I lost the booster to my Blast from the Past Space Shuttle and Mike Jerauld was kind enough to send me replacement laser-cut balsa. After I rebuilt the booster I had leftover orbiter parts, so with tubes and cones from Semroc I built another stack. I wanted to change the booster, however, because I liked the look of early concepts with both parts having the same wing configuration. My original plan was to have a pop-up rudder for the booster, but I decided that would be too complicated, so . . . .

I'll have time this weekend with Irene blowing through to finish this up. I have the patterns for the cardstock canopies from JimZ's site. I will swing test it, but it will be a heads up flight the first time. I've taken a lot of drag away from the rear with this design, but stability on boost is obviously a question. I also will hollow out the nose cones a bit to improve the glides, but it may need some weight at the front of the power pod.

Good work! You made your decals? If so, what did you use?

The TWA decals are from a company called TSDS and are for the Moebius 2001 Space Clipper. They come with the Pan Am logos plus TWA, NASA and a few others. You may be able to spot the leftover decals I also used from sets for the Orbital Transport and Trident. Those are from Tango Papa and Excelsior.

The Orbital Transport-like decal scheme looks GREAT !
May have to do that on my Semroc shuttle; will have to order some BLUE OT decals from Sandman.

Thanks!

I wanted to go with the Pan Am scheme, but I didn't have any blue window striping.

I may have to see if I can dig up any old "Republic Goose" decals for mine.
I always thought they had some of the neatest decor for airlines, just short of vintage Delta decor.
For those that don't remember, Republic was absorbed by NorthWORST in the 80's.

Unfortunately the airline that used to have the best domestic customer service, Delta, has stooped DOWN to NorthWORST level since they absorbed them.
