Estes Star Trek Starter Set Fin Dimensions?
Does anybody have the actual fin dimensions (root/tip/span) for the Estes Starter kit rocket?
Thanks!

I don't have the dimensions, but I do know the same exact fin unit molded in different colors was used on the Challenger-1 and the Star Wars Proton Torpedo. If you can find those dimensions they are interchangeable.

Nope, I don't have those either. I know there was a huge discussion a while back about how the Skywriter fins are wrong (I think that's what was decided) but as it turns out, in all my rocket junk, I don't have any cans that are even close!
Thanks, though!

The SHAPE of the Skywriter fins is correct, but the airfoil on those fins is incorrect for what you want. If you are only looking for the length/width/chord dimensions they are correct.

Hmmmm....good to know. I think the airfoil isn't going to be that important on this project...
Thanks!

Quote:
The shape is different, the trailing edge of the skywriter fins are parallel, it will sit flat on a table, where the star trek/kadet fin unit trailing edge is swept slightly forward. Expand the pic below on the left of the Star Trek fin can sitting on the table and you can see the sweep, compare to the mongoose In the middle which is the sky writer fin unit. The right hand picture is a Kadet which used the Star Trek/Proton Torpedo/early two stage Scorpion fin unit, in black. Last edited by 5x7 : 03-03-2017 at 11:06 AM. |

Ok, using my rather inadequate photo reconnaissance skills, I pulled the following measurements off of the picture... Root= 1.125" Tip= 1" Span= 1.5"
Does that seem about right?
