Default OpenRocket format now supported on YORF

For those wanting to contribute designs using OpenRocket, it is now possible to post the native ORK files in your messages. OpenRocket is a Java-based design program with features similar to RockSim, and as of the current version (1.1) it is capable of reading generic-level RockSim files (no subassemblies or pods yet).

We are watching the development of this program carefully, and hope to use it more in the future. No, we won't be dropping RockSim. But OpenRocket offers an interesting alternative route to rocket design on a tight budget.

That is cool, and I've used OpenRocket several times.

I just wish it had lists of body tubes and nose cones to choose from like Rocksim does.

(Unless I'm missing something, of course.)

I'd also like 3-D rendering capability.

I just signed up on the OpenRocket forum (Solomoriah is already there), and one of the issues the developer speaks of is the databases. He doesn't like the RockSim CSV's, but sounds like he's going to implement something similar in a later release. The materials, for example, are currently hard-coded in Java properties.

If any of you are software developers looking for a challenge, go sign up on SourceForge and log into the new forum. It hasn't been up long, so the information is still spotty. Maybe we can help fill it up...

I also posted a link to our little sandbox, so hopefully we can get the developer to migrate over here from time to time...
