I found the plastic parts sets.
Also have the assortment of parts packs with cones, transitions, red-tinted payload tubing and multi-piece fin units. -Chris |

[1] While I think David Miller *would* be quite willing to add the MPC plastic detail parts set to the "Moldin' Oldies" line (he has reproduced "common-type" discontinued Centuri nose cones for me at my request), I can't speak for him. I e-mailed him about this yesterday and included an attached copy of Neal's MPC parts set photograph, and this evening (11/27) I called David and left a message. In the message, I also mentioned that more than one person is interested in polyurethane resin duplicates of the MPC plastic detail parts set and that due to the parts' small size, each casting would require only a small amount of resin. Before you or Neal send an MPC parts set to David, let me first get ahold of him (he and his family are likely away for the Thanksgiving weekend) and confirm if he will do this--while I'm almost sure that he will, I can't say "Yes" for him. Also: [2] Having some resin casting experience myself, I can see that while creating an RTV (Room Temperature-Vulcanizing) rubber mold from the original MPC plastic parts (the "masters") would not be difficult, it might be necessary to remove some or all of them from their plastic "trees" (sprues) first. This would render the MPC plastic parts set no longer "original" because the parts would have been removed from their sprues (but the RTV rubber mold material would not harm the removed plastic parts themselves). If you or Neal wouldn't mind having this done, it would enable *all* would-be cloners of MPC and AVI model rocket kits to procure these detail parts. This would even create an advantage: If a given kit cloner only wanted certain MPC plastic detail parts (the MPC Taurus-1, for example [see: http://www.oldrocketplans.com/mpc/m...0/mpc3-0920.htm ], uses only the plastic booster nose cones & booster nozzles, for its optional side boosters), he or she would only need to order those resin duplicate parts instead of the entire parts set. I hope this information will be helpful.

There is no need for you to send one of your MPC plastic detail parts sets to David Miller. This evening I heard back from him (his e-mail address is: siriusrocketry@siriusrocketry.com ) at Sirius Rocketry (see: www.siriusrocketry.com ). Also: He said that he has several of the MPC plastic detail parts sets and that he has studied the problem of casting the whole set at once (he said that casting individual parts from the "tree" would be easier). I replied to his query (regarding how many resin duplicates of the parts set that I want to order) that I need only the booster nose cones and the booster nozzles for the Taurus-1 clone kits, and that I'd like to order 35 pairs of each (70 booster nose cones and 70 booster nozzles in total). In addition: He had mentioned not starting on this until sometime early next year (he thought I wanted the complete MPC detail part sets, which would be troublesome to mold), but with my pending large order (and the knowledge--passed along in my reply to him--that I only need the booster noses & nozzles), perhaps he may decide to expedite their production. (I won't be upset if he doesn't expedite it, as I know what time of year it is, and I have some idea [from experience] of what is involved in creating RTV rubber molds--it is an art as well as a science.) If, however, you would also like to order some of these resin duplicate parts and if you let him know, maybe he would expedite their production, knowing that there is more interest in them. (Please don't feel any pressure from me to do this--I just mentioned it as a possibility.)
