Centuri Saturn 1b
Does anyone have an open, but unbuilt kit of this? I have an original instruction sheet (and scans of it are available online) but that seems to be all that is out there. I have a spare Estes re-release of the model and I would like to build it like the Centuri version. There are some obvious differences such as the two engine cluster, and those are the things I would like to have some more information about. Like the centering rings and "gas seal".
If someone had a kit and would be willing to scan in these items that would be great. |

Use the old wadded up tissue coated in glue method for a gas seal.

Well, maybe that's the way you seal up your gas leaks, but not me

Kurt I never had the 1/100th kit, but I did model it in CAD for my clone (went w/ single 24mm engine). I wasn't totally clear on how the two engine cluster went together, but I think I got it figured out now.
That gas seal still has me puzzled--I can't tell from the drawing in the Centuri instructions whether it is a single layer, or if an "hour glass" piece is glued to the center to reinforce it. Attached are some shots from the CAD model, and a pdf file with the aft bulkhead and a single layer gas seal. If somebody actually built the two engine Centuri version and clarify my rendering, I would be glad to correct it. |

I have my old Centuri box at home, but I don't remember if I left the instructions in it. I'll try to remember to look when I get home tonight.

The old wadded up tissue and glue method is the ONLY acceptable way to seal against gas leaks ! None of that new-fangled store-bought baloney is proper.
