Default Vintage engine question.

I was asked recently about some vintage rockets engines: F110-6 made by Flight Systems Inc. in Dec. of 1977.

I've never heard of these. Were they legit? They also asked if there's a modern model rocket that they could be used in.

Thanks!

I have never heard of a F110-6.

F100 were the go-to loud and smoky BP motor for decades.

There has been lots of discussions about the F100s, but I've never heard of an F110.

In the late 70s I was visiting California regularly, and saw lots of FSI motors, including F100s, in a hobby shop in Mountain View. I wanted to buy a bunch but reality set in -- I could not fly home with them. 🤔

I do have a number of the much cherished Estes B14 motors, both booster and upper stage. I need to contact NAR to get the paperwork to fly them at a club launch this year.

I think all you need to do is notify (in writing, via e-mail should be fine) whoever is in charge of the NAR OOP Motor Testing Program and you should be able to fly those B14's. I did that a few years ago (used some of my Centuri labelled B14's) and they worked fine, had that nice, classic kick off the pad on ignition.

The guy asking me about the engines said it IS actually F100-6 and NOT F110-6.

Are the engines the same diameter and length as a "D"?

F100's are about twice as long and I believe are 27mm.

Here is your FSI F100 motor on the far right. It's from Neal Miller's post.
They are 27mm as Scott mentioned. FSI made motors that were 21mm and 27mm.

F100-0, 4, 6, 8, 10 were the production motors. Occasionally they made weird motors for FX but it is unlikely any motor collector has them or even photos exist.

One of the odd ones: An FSI F10-2. I was told that these were made for the US Team 'F' Glider (or whatever the Internat specification was) competition.
