Default Adhesive question.

Yes, really. I have an adhesive question.

Tomorrow I'm going to be gluing the plastic parts into the faux jet engines of the Semroc Shuttle SST-1. The molded plastic pieces don't seem to be styrene--but rather something else. Polyurethane maybe?

Anyway, regular Testors tube type plastic model cement doesn't seem to work. What d'yall recommend? CA? Epoxy? Contact cement (a.k.a. "The Devil's Mucous"?)

Thanks!

Hmmm. Interesting.

I'd rough up the mating surfaces and try the contact cement.

I think those are cast resin.

I use super glue gel.

Mine went together fine using Tenax 7R liquid cement.
I will premise that with both of mine are VERY EARLY CC:SST Shuttle kits that were not supplied with directions, just like the early Space Plane kits were not.
I do not know if the later complete kits had different nozzle material.
I glued the nozzles in the tubes with epoxy.

Thanks for the timing on your question. I have a Semroc USS America kit ready for it's final finish coat of white, to be followed thearfter with the installation of the very same intake and exhaust nozzle parts for the same jet engine tubes as used on the SST kit. Yes, they are not plastic....some type of cast material based on molds from the original Centuri plastic parts.

For plastic I would probably use tube type cement, but for mine I was planning on using epoxy, but will be open to other suggestions that might be tossed out here.

Ah so! I thought those parts looked familiar! I built a USS America last year and it indeed has the same resin parts. I need to dig through my notes and see if I wrote down what adhesive I used.
