Instrumental music of the early rock decades was very memorable. One of my favorites (which are too numerous to list) isWalk Don't Run by the Ventures

In that vein, I like Hank Marvin's sound on The Shadows' Apache.

Going back a decade or so, instrumental wise, We could also talk about the Glenn Miller Band.

Not a big fan of instrumentals, but I do like The Glenn Miller Band.

I had that single! The B side of that 45 was “The McCoy” (see: www.youtube.com/watch?v=38EEGayEEGk ), which was also catchy—not a mere “cereal filler song” at all.

Thank you for posting this—I knew The Shadows without knowing that I did! (There are many songs I like, but don’t know which artist or artists recorded them [in many cases, I don’t even know the names of the songs—“Yellow Jacket” by The Ventures was another example of this, until this week].) I’d heard and enjoyed “Apache” many years ago, and I’d never guessed that that very country/western-sounding instrumental was created by a rock band—talk about a “crossover song!” Also, since The Shadows *and* The Ventures recorded covers of "Telstar" by The Tornados, it must rate as one of the "more often covered" rock & roll instrumentals.

Indeed...Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, and their ilk produced distinctive compositions that are not only memorable, but are fun (and not too difficult) to play; in high school, our band played medleys of their most famous instrumentals. (And here's a weird bit of musical trivia that I heard on a radio program several years ago: the hymn "Silent Night" was played for the very first time on a Spanish guitar. If memory serves, the church organist was ill or otherwise unable to get to the church that night, so it was played on the only other instrument that the composer had available.)

Like tequila, not like jenkem. This thread has been jacked and I commend the listowner for his impressive constraint. He needs a 152mm motor from me!!!
