Muskegon? SWEET!

Been a while since I had a good excuse to go all the way up there (close to home, but far from where I currently live).

I'm happy as can be about NARAM going to Muskegon...except for on thing.

The NARAM field is on Michigan highway M-46, a two lane road, Muskegon is on Lake Michigan.

I live about 8 miles from M-46, at the other end, at Lake Huron.

It's a 200 mile trip on the same 2 lane road all the way.

Oh, well...55 mph all the way!

A nice pleasurable drive through rural Michigan!

I'd be happy if any of the events were just 200 miles down a two lane road from me. All of the events are going to be 10+ hours away from me.

Wow, that puts you near my in-laws who live in Harbor Beach. I didn't think anyone other than my wife's relatives lived up there in the hangnail of the thumb.

Any recommendations on how to get there from points southwest without going through the Chicago metro?

Looks like you head east just south of Chi-Town. The good news is you get to see Gary, IN.
See it quickly, if possible.

There are no alternatives unless you want to: 1. Go north around the top of Lake Michigan. 2. Take an expensive ferry. Plot each and you'll see they're not so attractive. Any route south of Lake Michigan will put you into some kind of urban traffic issue. It can be bad or it can be a breeze. It all depends on phases of the moon, astrological signs and the ratio of tourists/out of town truckers to locals. Then there's the problem that metro Chicago has only two seasons: Winter and construction.

Oh, come on Randy, we can carpool! Can you imagine testing a G-Egglofter at Shelby Farms?
