3D printing is fun!
Well, I finally got the 3D printer up and running, and I've been slowly learning to create objects (programming, really) in OPENSCAD. I've actually uploaded three designs to Thingiverse (kind of a clearing house for 3D and laser cutting designs, all downloadable for free). The first is a parametric elliptical nose cone - you change the diameter and ratio of length to diameter in the OPENSCAD file and render any size nose cone you want. I also uploaded a couple of standard Estes style nose cones as well: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:507830
The second object (or "Thing" as they are referred to) is a parametric conical nose cone design. Same idea as the first but with a conical shape, also including a few pre-generated cones: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:509295 Finally, the conical nose cones got me thinking about one of the really cool rockets using a conical nose: the Black Brant II. Great model and a great flyer, but that reducer is a real pain - not any more! I modeled the reducer and the tail cone and also included the NC-55BB from the conical nose generator. I'm really pleased with this one! http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:512113 I also plan to eventually reduce these parts so I can print a smaller version based on the BT-50 body tube and using an 18mm motor. I'm really excited about the possibilities using this thing! It will be even better when the company that made my printer adds a heated bed so I can print with ABS instead of PLA (which is a real pain to sand and can't be vapor-smoothed like ABS can).

My son has access to one at his university. He called me a while back asking me to send him Alway's data on the Aerobee Hi. He now has scale stage couplers, fins, and more! We've already done gap staged sport scale Aerobees. Now we will be able to do true scale gap staged Aerobees.

There might, one day, be a 3D download section with the plans web page!
