Default Rocksim Technical Issues

I signed up for the Rocksim trial some time ago (like, a few months after 9 came out) but only got my hands on an XP system to run it on recently (I'm a Linux user by choice, but I am an experienced computer technician... XP is hardly foreign to me). I installed the trial, and when I start it, I get an 0xC0000005 error in ADVAPI32.DLL; the code translates as "Access Violation Error."

Is anyone familiar with this? More importantly, what, if anything, can be done to fix it so I can try it out before it expires?

Solo,

I'm not certain, but I thought I saw or read where the Mac version is said to 'possibly' be able to run on a Linux kernel. You might want to look at trying this. It would make sense, as the Mac OS is a BSD derivative "Mach" kernel.

As for the Win32 version, you might want to download another copy and try again. Sounds like your first copy might be corrupt. Also, make sure your XP installation is running at least Service Pack 2, and better SP3. A raw 1st-gen XP install had issues...

It's running SP3.

I'm downloading a new copy from the link I received originally. Evidently it was last June when I requested it.

Okay, the "new" download is bit-for-bit identical to the old one.

No help there. I guess it just isn't going to work.

Solo,

(Some rambling thoughts...)

The only thing I can suggest short-term is to try and run the demo on 'yet another XP machine' to see if the problem is in the binary, or in your computer's XP install. The demo and the release version are the same binary, you just get a "key" from Apogee to unlock the program so that the time-out is bypassed.

Is it possible your trial time has already run out?

Something I've started doing a bit more often is to defrag the registry. My Win7 computer seems to behave better now after straightening the registry out. It was affecting the desktop icons, it had gotten so bad. The two utilities I'm using are from Eusing (both a registry cleaner, and a registry defragger), and they seem to work reasonably well.

Wish I could think of something else, but this is all that strikes me right now...
