That said, both are WAYYYYYY better than cleveland.

If The Prop Shop is still open then there’s ONE more good thing in Warren.

OK, I'm back from DE and back to the Jayhawk.

the model has been treated with a coat of Aerogloss balsa filler coat, sanded, and then (3) coats of Aerogloss sanding sealer and sanded between each coat.

Now for the pitot tube and antenna bases.

The pitot tube is made from (2) 3D printed halves and then surface mounted to the belly ofthe airframe. The (2) antenna bases are each a single 3D printed part and also surface mounted to the sides of the airframe just below the "3 o'clock" and "9 o'clock" positions.
For mounting these pieces to the airframe I'm using CA gel.

Judging from it's vulnerable position, I predict the pitot tube will last ONE flight and recovery at the most!

The instructions say to mount these pieces after painting the model, but I'm doing it before. I'll have "The Vixen" hand paint them after the model is painted.

The model is now in gray primer!

NOW I can see the flaws. I'm beginning to hate the location of the 3/16" launch lugs.

You are correct. The Prop Shop is still open in Warren. I was there this week to pick up some Plastruct Bondene to build my 1/45 LJII capsule/fins/etc.
They moved their Rocketry section 3 weeks ago into a space half the size.
What used to be a decent selection now sucks.
Looks like I will be going to Nankin hobby in Farmington from now on. They have a huge rocket section and lower prices.

It's orange!!

After a coat of white primer I then shot the model with (2) coats of Testors Competition Orange enamel. I'll let this paint dry for a couple of days.

This mofo is SOOOOO orange, if Nesbitt's ever saw it they would call me up and say, "we're not worthy!"

Beautiful work.

I love Testor's Competition Orange. Use it on every Comanche III I build. I then dull coat it as per instructions. Takes some of the glaring orange off.

Thanks!

Yes, I love Testors Competition Orange also. I use a lot of it and I wish I could find something similar in a larger can.

Ford and Chevy have "competition orange" and Mopar has "hemi orange". One might be close. Should be available in large rattle cans if it is a close enough match. Check Dupli-Color, VHT, etc.

Thanks! I'll check that out.

A question:

Does anyone know what color the pitot tube and antennas are supposed to be? The instructions don't specify. Black? Gray? Orange?

Thanks.
