Default Cutting vacuform wraps on the Estes saturn V

Good morning guys!
Came upon a roadblock last night while building this monster: cutting out the first stage wrap. My #11 blade hugs the corrugation just fine but I need to cut a straight line about 3 inches from the top, using a guide and without crushing the corrugations. Any advice? "Dave, my mind is going" Take care and happy Friday!!!!! Take care, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I've got a pretty comprehensive build of the Estes Saturn V in progress on my blog at:
http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...abel/Saturn%20V

I started covering the wraps (the cutting and gluing) in Part 15:
http://modelrocketbuilding.blogspot...t-15-wraps.html

Later on there are some extra enhancements to the build.
Be ready, you've got a few "gotchas" coming up!

You do not want to get too close to the corrugation on the wrap. The recommendation of a 1/16th is valid since you need a gluing edge. Take a steel rule and lay it on the flat section about 1/16th away from the corrugation and make several scoring passes with a new, sharp blade. Once you have scored it, carefully fold the flat plastic to snap it off.

I'll do just this. My mistake was not leaving enough space. Thanks again, Jeff

P.S. Still waiting for my jigs!

Hi Chris:
I can't thank you enough for your website. And if I may ask a question about the wrap placement: Did you start and end the wrap at the reference line shown in the instructions for all the wraps in order to place the correct tunnels ect? Take care, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Yep, I did start everything at the reference line.
Even being careful, the tunnels weren't in a straight line. You could hardly notice it, but they are off just a little.

On my build, I cut to the the currugations closer than the 1/16" recommended in the instructions.
It still worked, but I did have to go and sneak some plastic compatable CA into some of the edges that were opening up.

Thanks for your reply, Chris or Hans?
Your build site is nothing short of a lifesaver for me. Take care, Jeff
