Intel Receives ASML's First High NA EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) system
1 Mar 2024

One of these machines uses as much electrical power as three Super Walmarts as claimed in the update video linked below.

Full system with the side panels off:

Amazing tech. To produce high power EUV, it zaps 50,000 precision 30 micron diameter tin micro-droplets per second shot into a chamber at 288 km/hr twice each with two high power lasers, the first pulse to shape the droplets into the desired shape to properly direct the UV (!) before vaporizing them with a second laser pulse. That explanation starts a 9:25:

The Extreme Engineering of ASML's EUV Light Source
26 Dec 2021

After 20+ years of development, extreme ultraviolet lithography has become a commercial reality. As I write these words, multi-million dollar machines from ASML use EUV light to create impossibly small patterns in wafers.

This technological magic requires a powerful heart inside of it. And indeed, there is an amazing system driving ASML's $150 million lithography machine: The EUV Light Source.

In this video, we are going to look at the lasers firing pulses at tin droplets to create the powerful, 13.5 nanometer wavelength light for our latest, greatest microprocessors.

The other day I sat next to a woman who has a profound fear of flying. I wanted to comfort her, so I said, "Don't worry, we're not gonna' crash. Statistically, we got a better chance of being bitten by a shark." Then I showed her the scar on my elbow from a shark attack. I said, "I got this when my plane went down off of Florida." - Dennis Regan

We may finally be getting to the point where this becomes practical...
