Default Maxi-Brute HoJo question.

Does anyone know if the Maxi Honest John kit #2166 was shrink wrapped, or were the boxes only taped?

I've built several sealed kits over the years, but I've never seen a shrink wrapped one. ALWAYS taped.

Thanks.

All I've seen were just taped, including the one I bought from Beer Skunk.

The two #2166 kits that I have, the reissue of the Maxi V2, the two original issues of the HJ and the one kit of the V2 that I have are all taped. Never recall ever seening a shrink wrapped Maxi kit. FWIW, I did a lot of shrink wrap kits for NCR in '93-'94. It is a pain to do correctly just using a heat gun.

The only shrink-wrapped Maxi-Brutes I'm aware of were the K-36/1236 Saturn V and the Star Wars Maxi-Brute X-Wing.

The V2, Honest John, Pershing 1A, Colossus, and Saturn 1B were all taped boxes.

The Maxi Alpha and Maxi Alpha 3 were bagged kits.

I have all of the old original Maxi Brutes (several in some cases) ALL are shrink wrapped. You can see that they are taped under the shrink wrap as well, but they are all shrink wrapped. They were purchased from various stores, some directly from Estes, all while they were still being produced.

My original release #1269 HoJo is shrink wrapped. The #2166 re-release kit is taped.

In the past few months there have been at least 5-6 Maxi Pershings offered on ebay (which is kind of unusual in and of itself.....generally they rarely come up at all), and about HALF of them have featured the original shrink wrap.
