Default New Estes Nike Smoke Fin Job

Well, it turns out that I positively SUCK at using a plane, so I'm going with what I know: sanding.

I've made (4+) core blanks from 1/16" basswood and then marked them with a pencil for the side strips (also made of 1/16" basswood.) I then glue and clamp the side strips with Elmer's white.

I then tape a small piece of 100 grit sandpaper onto the Corian board, lay the Corian board across my Herculean thighs, and scrape the necessary tapers into the side strips.

I have 220 grit taped to the other side of the Corian and I use it to scrape flat the root and outer edges. I then use the mahogany sanding block to bevel the leading and trailing edges and to form gluing surfaces for the cardstock that's coming next.

The Nike fin job is on hold for a while. I'm back in Monterrey, NL, Mexico for at least two weeks. The boss is gonna have a heart attack when I turn in my expense report THIS time!

Time for a cold Indio! Good night. TBC

Hey, Jeep. I know this is a long-finished build, but did you happen to take any pictures of the finishing process for the scale fins? I'm getting ready to build my Smoke and have never papered fins before.
I'll hang up and listen. Thanks!
