Greeting all Ye Olde Rocketry Forum'ers
Wow! We just had an a new single motor record listed with us, for an Estes A8-5 from Austrailia. A small rocket just hit 433 feet using an onboard altimeter. Anyone out there able to challenge this one from the land down unda? G'day mates! http://www.ausrocketry.com/forum/vi...t=3497&start=15 97&p=40797#p40797 Rockoon (SRP Crew)

Both the E6 and F10 were later certified by NAR in the same form flown on those flights. Actually the two stage E6 flight was with NAR certified motors at a NAR sanctioned launch in Sunnyvale, CA hosted by Jim Gracey (PAR-11 or 13 or something), so those records might still exist in NAR. The Rosenfield flight was with a not yet certified motor at El Dorado dry lake, come to think of it, it might have been an earlier date than I stated, like 1979. Here the precise motor certification date is memoralized: http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/1-83/CRm.183.04.w.gif Here are the earliest thrust curves published: http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/4-83/CRm.4-83.02.w.gif Here's a link to a records Trials. At the bottom of that page is the photographs of my E60/F100 record setting 1041m black powder F altitude flight at NARWIN-1 in Arizona. http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/10-81/CRm.10-81.19.w.jpg Here's another http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/4-82/CRm.4-82.11.w.jpg http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/4-82/CRm.4-82.17.w.jpg Hmmm. Look at the bottom of page 3 here: http://v-serv.com/crp/CRm/1-83/CRm.183.03.w.jpg Then look at NFPA-1125 2012 . . . There's a start. Jerry |

Missing of Forgotten Altitudes from the Past: Remembered
Jerry that's awesome!
Greg Smith will have a small deployment when he sees that old picture back in 1981. Let me scour through to see what I can put up on the list. I'll use those dates provided in the links. You should be able to view them by the end of the day. Do not hesitate to send more if available. Thanks Jerry

2 stage 3 cluster D12. D12-0 to D12-7. I am pretty sure it was two stage. The record itself is not clear but I very rarely flew it single stage. Power Freak I guess. I doubt it is any kind of record. There are photos of the two stage staging in the LDRS-1 article from several rocket owners. Greg Smith contributed quite a bit to the magazine. I think he was sponsored by Piralta (skate boards) at the time. Lived in Upland, CA. Does anyone here have an original 4-82 CRm? Jerry Last edited by Jerry Irvine : 02-12-2012 at 12:44 PM. |

Controlled mayhem if it works
Speaking of power freaks and clumping motors, my son has prepped a scratchbuilt with 7 Estes E9-8 clustured up and holding 2 wireless cameras, and a HD camera and a some fancy flashing recovery system for the Farm Easter Launch. I hope it works for him. He needed that many motors to get the thing up to a reasonable altitude and it's of course "It's a challenge". He's got it at 3.7 lbs and still has more to go on it yet.
He's simming around 1500'. Any thoughts on a sure fire way to start 7 motors at once...correctly/safely. He wants to do a foil flashing bag of FFFF, or maybe we should just get the car battery out and clip'em all together instead (The hookup from hell) Hey, if it works it will be a heck of a flame from coming out of that businesss end) Any advice you could spare on that might be helpful. The Fire Extinguisher and a Garbage bag will be at the ready... Rick

Flash in the pan works reliably. One igniter too.

Huge record listing posted
Hi,
I just had the biggest 2-stage posted. Even though Jim did it in 2006, he divulged the data required, so I could post his shot. 100,000+ I told him I consider it to be the highest 2-stage altitude, even though he humbly denies it because Tripoli wouldn't consider it because of his lack of recovery. He could only find the nose cone yet got GPS data. He's well documented. He has three links: (#3 N5800,N1000 motors) http://www.mts.net/~rns/URR/The%20G...e%20records.htm I told him that you would make my list as a 2-stage because it was configured to be a 2-stage on the pad. It would be kind of hard to post a sustainer only record that has two N motors wouldn't it?... I guess the debate could rage on for this type of ruling....So what happen's if he recovered the rest of it a few months later. Would things be changed in the eyes of a rocket org.? Just wondering about that. I thought using the K.I.S.S. principle makes rockets less complicated...hmm
