The E12 is perfect for a Super Big Bertha.

When they first came out I bought a bunch of E12-4's that turned out to have the bad date code. I had a beat up old Super Big Bertha and I figured I wouldn't be too upset if a cato destroyed it, so I gave it a shot. I got a couple of beautiful flights before one of the E12's finally blew. The plastic nose cone softened from the heat of the fireball and it deformed when I picked it up.

FWIW, I measured the fin thickness on the remains. They're 1/8" balsa.

Thanks for the confirmation on the fin thickness. Were they slot mounted?

When I built mine a million years ago, I ditched the gussets and just used epoxy fillets. The fins held up fine under composite E power. YMMV.

Ah so! Do you have the rest of the instructions? None of the usual sites seem to have them.

I think you just missed it, it is on the Estes site:

Instructions

SBB instructions:
SBB

Have fun with it, I built a modified Broadsword for an H contest and it still flies today, gussets and all.
