Saturn SA-6 or 7
Well, I'm in the mood to build a 1/100 Scale Saturn 1b. Not really a 1b but a Saturn SA-6 or 7.
I know there are no differents in the SA-6 or 7 except the paint scheme. I like the black paint scheme best. Right now all tubes can be had at eRockets. It looks like the only tube I need to figure out is the Second stage tube. At this point, I'm not sure what tube to use I need some help on this. Just off the top of my head a BT-70. Anyone, please give me some feedback on this. The fins well have to be worked out also. It's nice to be able to get the Apollo capsule from ESTES. If I get the tube problem figured out I will make wraps to do the second stage and change the tank wraps a little for this build. I really don't want to do all the extra pipework down the tanks but that's a long way off. I'm just in the planning stage now so any help or feedback is welcome. |

Thanks, John, I'll take all the help I can get. I'm Keeping my fingers cross that ESTES rereleases the 1/100 Saturn 1b. To me, the 1b was the hot rod of the Saturn rockets. |

Been looking around at body tubes and I have come up with an LT- 225 tube. The OD is 2.340 and that's the closest I can get between BT-70 and BT 80.

It is very easy to make a larger diameter tube from a smaller one, or a smaller tube from a larger one. Take a look at this thread starting with post #16.

Thanks, tbzep, I just may try that. The height of the tube isn't that much. Rocket of the World gives the measurement of the real SA-6 as 222.0 across so would a tube 2.220 be right? I'm new to this stuff. all help welcome. |
