Yeah, I've never picked up anything WAY COOL from them, but I've occasionally indulged in a vintage-esque kit from them when the price was right. An Estes Solar Probe and Alien Space Probe were the most recent picks.

Larry, Could you trace the legs on a piece of paper and then scan them for use as a template? Do you have an LIA-77 you could compare it to to see what the differences are?

I'd love to see the instruction sheet for both of the LIA pads.
I once had one, maybe two, of the "box" style Centuri pads, courtesy a starter set purchased at a garage sale. SIGH. I also once had a retailer box with three of those igniter / deflector assemblies. I sold it cheap when I was cleaning up prior to my move to California. I could have used them to recreate an LIA-77. Oh well. |

Penn Valley Hobby Center is obviously using Gerry Fortin's site for reference when pricing their Estes kits. I wonder if they've sent him something as a "thank you" like we (YORF) did? :-)

I've ordered model plane stuff from PVHC. Nice folks. I didn't know they did rockets.

I used to be able to buy all kinds of OOP rocketry goodies from them at MSRP or less. That was until about 11 or so years ago when Mack Yocum turned them on to eBay and they realized the goldmine they were sitting on. They used to put out a newsletter that had a huge list of OOP rockets on it with pricing. That was before they started on the internet. According to what Mack told me years ago, they have an old barn full of old rocketry items. They are an old time hobby shop, but I'm not sure how they acquired all that stuff. Whether they just over-ordered all the time, or bought out inventory of other shops that were closing up.

They are smart too....they only sell it a few items at a time and almost always get premium prices for their goodies.
If they have a LOT of items like this though, the prices are bound to drop as only so many guys will pay $200 for any launch pad that can only handle one rocket at a time up to "G" power. If they have say 15 of these, most likely the last 5 or so will maybe hit $100.

I picked up an ignitor/deflector unit a while back, and tried to scale the tripod. I would also like to see the leg and base measurements. Thanks

Larry- Any chance you can confirm whether the deflector/ignitor assembly is the same as used on the smaller LIA-77? Also, could you trace and then scan and post to the forum one leg of the launcher? Earl
