Good point tbzep. I collect only that which I think I'll have time to build before I go. We'll see!

Agree with the valueless claim, but think it will occur closer to 30 years from now rather than 20 years.
I build the classics I buy eventually. I 'collect' them to build and fly vintage kits.

I'd be fine if it happened tomorrow, giving us $10 sealed, mint K kits. As long as they're not from China.

I clone most of what I build ... but I do buy select vintage kits with the intent of building them.
Here's one I picked up last week. They shipped it to me in an freaking envelope! The box was slightly crushed but luckily the contents were intact. |

I have had a few shipped like that. And for what I got charged for shipping they could of purchased a new box, a roll of bubble wrap and still had cash left over for a cold one after mailing it.. Nice kit by the way - I have always wanted one.

It's interesting to me that the box was part of the Citation line, the marketing foray into department stores. The material cost of the box was probably close to the sum total of all the rest, but perceived to be a necessary cost adder for the retail segment then emerging. Otherwise, the box was just overhead, adding no value to the rocket. (Please, that's not a dare for the hard heads here who have flown a box ) Anyway, the box served a good purpose this time And hey, you can probably still get 25 bucks for it on eBay Doug .

That is a nice kit. Congrats.
I picked up a spare Big Bertha recently that was shipped in a couple of envelopes taped together. It had one roll of bubble wrap around PART of the kit, and it arrived the same day as and underneath a cast iron pot Sandy ordered. Body tube totally fried.

Whenever I win a vintage kit on ebay I always tell the seller to ship it in a box and not an envelope--otherwise cancel the sale.
