I was at my LHS today looking for Tenax7 R and the Tenax display box was filled with this stuff: STYRENE TACK-IT Plastic Welder. There were no bottles of actual Tenax to be found.

I'll give this stuff a test and let you know. TBC

If you can tell me the ingredients, I could tell you if it would work as well as Tenax 7R. A good substitute for Tenax is Ambroid Pro-Weld. If you want to make your own Tenax, get a can of CHLORINATED (red can) CRC Brakleen at your auto parts store. It is Perchloroethylene, which is also known as Tetrachloroethylene. Up until fairly recently it was also used as dry-cleaning fluid. If you are in Commiefornia, you won't find it though.

If you check the sprue cutters' forums, I think they recommend MEK as a substitute.

My LHS still carries Tenax, you can go with Ambroid as GH suggests, also there are glues that are offered by Plastistruct for styrene. I use Tamiya Extra Thin that is good as well. There is a British company called Deluxe Materials that offer a lot of glues for various hobbies such as balsa rc planes to scale modeling. www.deluxematerials.co.uk

I have not tried this from Micro Mark, but plan to when my current bottle of Tenax is gone (I store it in the fridge)

MEK is not nearly as 'hot' as Tenax7R is. Testors Liquid Plastic Cement with the brush-in-top is now just a 1oz bottle of MEK. I have that stuff in gallon cans. MEK is fine if you want a really slow liquid cement. Testor's cement used to be half-decent when it was 60% MIBK and 40% MEK. Plastruct is not too bad, but nothing beats Tenax in my book.
Just get a can of CHLORINATED red-can CRC Brakleen, and fill your old Tenax bottle by spraying it full slowly with the aerosol can.

careful, CRC makes an non-chlorinated cleaner that comes in a red can, so read the label!!
