Default Launch of the Clones!!

This weekend, I launched a few clones at the ASTRE chapter launch:

I finished my Avenger clone the night before, and flew it on a B6-0, to B6-6. It was built stock, except I added vents to the booster, and engine hooks for both motors. It now gap stages over a 1/4" gap. It also sports a 16" Fliskits chute. The liftoff was straight and true. Upper stage ignition went well, and the booster fluttered back. The ej went off just after apogee, and the rocket landed about 500' from the pad.

My Big Bertha has actually been around since the mid-1970s. I repainted it in the 1969 catalog colors, and boost on a B4-2 was neat and slow.

The Orion screamed off the pad on a D12-3. Recovery was via 18" nylon chute, and was flawless. I actually caught this one on the way down!

I also launched my MPC Delta Katt. The booster is original, but he glider is a clone. I managed about 45 seconds on a 1/2A3-2T, which was a best for this little bird. Unfortunately, I did not get any pics.

I was at the field from 10 am to 5:30pm, and enjoyed every second!!

I flew my Bertha last week on a C6-5. I didn't have a B4-2 or I'd have tried it. The Avenger is on my list to be fixed. It lost some fins last summer when the flooring people pounded the old hearth into the garage. Do you have a good "at rest" shot of it?

I have an original unopened Avenger kit that I bought earlier this summer for $30.00.
I may build this one for the heck of it.

No kidding!!! $30!!! That's a killer deal. I already have a clone, but I'd build that one just to say I did it at that price.

Because I got it for $30.00 is why I may build it....it is in mint shape, and the cost of parts alone to clone it would be around $30.

I however have about 25 clone kits/self clones with parts to build before I get to this one.

Slated for the building desk:
An original K-41 Mercury Redstone (no worries, I have 3 and this one is opened)
PDR Estes Gemini-Titan Clone
Original K-29 Saturn 1B (I know you collector purists must be shocked)
PDR Orbital Transport Clone
Astron Midget (Original)
PDR Astron Trident
Cherokee-D Clone
Semroc Mini-Max Scorpion Clone
Semroc Aero-Bee Hi clone
Semroc CC Space Plane clone
Semroc SST Shuttle Clone
Astron Skydart clone
Estes Re-Issue Scissor Wing Transport
Aerotech Sumo (For my L1 attempt)
Original K-30 Estes Little Joe
Astron Interceptor
Enerjet (not plain Centuri) Nike-Smoke clone (with working "smoker")
Original Estes Mars-Lander kit
Estes #1284 Space Shuttle kit
Estes 1974 issue Klingon Battle Cruiser
Estes 1974 issue Starship Enterprise
Estes Colonial Viper
Several "free" Semroc Swift kits due to my parts orders

Need to paint:
Enerjet Athena Clone UPDATE: Now Painted, needs decals
Enerjet 1972 version Aero-Dart Clone UPDATE: NOW PAINTED !
Semroc Recruiter UPDATE: NOW PAINTED

Still have not launched but completed:
K-36 Saturn 5
Astron Scramber Clone
Astron Ranger Clone
Astron Cobra Clone
Semroc Mini-Max Jaguar Clone

All these rockets are not to mention my 15+ unbuilt R/C pattern and pylon airplanes in addition to my fleet of 7 flyable R/C planes.

Did I mention my other hobbies that include my Jet Skiis, Boat, Target shooting with numerous rifles and pistols, and time for AT LEAST an hour of online Texas Hold 'em poker ?
My main hobby focus lately has been rocketry, which is often concurrent with online poker playing.

I won the ROL auction a week ago for 71 RMS 24/40 reloads, plus I have a boatload of Estes & Aerotech motors to launch all these critters if I ever get a chance.

Well, Scott, it's your own dang fault. Maybe we should just start calling you "Cabin Boy".

Later,

Hehe. Ya, that's where I'll be this weekend too! Which reminds me, how do you want to handle those cones you got me?

Say, I see that ghrocketman has a number of Pimp Daddy Rocketry clones to build. Does anyone here have experience with these kits? If so, what's the quality of parts? Are the fins laser-cut, or do you have to cut yourself from templates?

The fin set for their Orbital Transport is a packaged set that are laser-cut from BMS, which is much better than the original Astron kit; that thing you had to cut out each & every fin individually...it was a pain & I built 4 original ones.
The Gemini-Titan uses Clear plastic stock that you glue together with clear dope, just like the old Estes K-21.
Not sure about the Astron Trident Clone; have not opened it yet.

The part quality of the PDR kits is great, about on par with Semroc or like Estes of the past.
